Quad-I Vise Review

I am unable to review the Quad-I vise because both Quad-I vises left at the shop I work for had serious manufacturing defects in them. If I get a third Quad-I vise to try that has been surface ground correctly and hasn’t be damaged I will post my thoughts on what appears to be a very good vise design.  The owner and designer of the Quad-I vise, Stan Dornfeld doesn’t make the Quad-I vise himself and contracts it out to someone else who I’m told is located in Meadville, PA. The Quad-I vise is a very expensive vise selling for $1,500 and I don’t feel that a vise that sells for this price should be out .0005 in flatness. I also feel this vise should have the same opening size as a much less expensive vise such as a Kurt D-688.  All 16 or our shops Kurt D-688 vises are flat within .0001 or better and this is after many years of use.

The owner and inventor of the Quad-I vise Stan Dornfeld is not very pleased that I won’t review and recommend purchase of his vise because it’s out at least .0005 in flatness.  Until I’m delivered a vise that is manufactured correctly, I don’t feel that spending anymore of my time on what I think is most likely a first rate vise design makes good use of my or our shops time.
